Screen LCD TV Review |

In this review, I am not going to write about the usual, like the lcd tv's resolution, connecting options, contrast ratios or response time but I am going for the user ratings. These are ratings by users who own and use the said lcd tvs, and therefore is one good way to judge how good a particular model is. This is how I am going to do this review. First, I look for the best selling lcd televisions to obtain the top 10 best selling models. After that I drop by CNET and look for the top 10 lcd televsions which are editors choice. The reason I do this is , the best selling model list is compiled from data from retailers. This data gives an indication on which flat screen lcd tv is the market favorite. As for CNET editors' choices, these are lcd tvs tested in CNET lab. Thus the lcd tv's capabilities and performances are put to test and evaluated by experts. My aim is to to see if the top 10 of both lists have any similarities in terms of the brands and make. From there I move on to check what are the users' ratings of the respective lcd television. The two lists mentioned are tabulated below.
What can we make out from the two lists? A quick glance revealed that the two list are not similar. Take for example, the top lcd televisions in both list are different. In the best selling list it is Sharp LC-32D50U while in the CNET editors choice it is Sony KDL-40XBR2. What we can inferred is that editors choice may not be the market favorite. However if we look closer, it can be seen that in both lists, Sharp and Sony dominates the rankings and in fact there are three LCD television models that are common in both lists. The models are :-
Sony's model is 32 inch while the two Sharp's models are 37 inch lcd tvs. Thus knowing that these three models are common to both lists and with this basis I proceeded to find out user ratings for these three models. On the user ratings, I got hold of the ratings by visiting Epinions and again CNET. So what are the user ratings of these three models. The results are tabulated in the table below. As can be noted from the table below, Sharp LC-37D90U lcd television is rated highly by users. Unfortunately there are no user reviews from Epinions. Next ,this is followed by another Sharp lcd television, model LC-37D40U. Both user ratings in both CNET and Epinion gave it a higher score than Sony's KDL-32S2000 which has the lowest score amount the three. I included the price range for the three models for comparison. It can be noted that the prices for the Sharp models varies greatly while for Sony the difference between the highest and lowest is not more than $500.
So what can we conclude from this simple lcd tvs review exercise. The conclusion is, if one is shopping for an lcd tv less than 40 inch, then why not go for Sharp LC-37D90U. Why? ,well it's an CNET editors choice and has high user rating. Also for the same price ($1500) to buy Sony KDL-32S2000, one might as well buy this Sharp model. Further more as the price range varies a lot, this means that there's a lot of room to shop around for the best bargain for this flat screen lcd tv. One way that one can go about doing this is by taking Sony KDL-32S2000 as a base line price. Then one can go online and shop around. If one can get a Sharp LC-37D90U for about $1500, this is, in my opinion a value for money purchase. However one need to be cautious with things like, the condition of the set, is it used, is it factory refurbished and other expenses like delivery, warranties and what accessories are included or excluded.
