What’s hot in television this year

A lot of things and one of the main question that’s being asked is this “Is the era of cathode ray tube television coming to an end?” Yes, it seemed so, as far as for workers in two SONY’s plants in the US are concerned. They are stopping production of CRT televisions. This is according to the following source.

THE GIZMO: New trends in television.

GOOD-BYE, CATHODE RAY: Need proof that conventional CRT (cathode ray tube) televisions are going down for the count?

Employees at Sony’s two TV plants in the United States got the word this week.

They’re no longer going to produce the brand’s vaunted Trinitron picture tubes domestically.

Another item from the same source that “ringed” a bell is this :

MORE TELLY TREATS: We hear Toyota will be first to introduce Sharp’s unique, two-way-viewing-angle LCD displays in high-end automobile dashboards.

The driver gazing at the 7-inch display will see a navigation map, while the rider in the front passenger seat watches a movie (assuming local regulations allow) on the same screen!

I did came across this item a few weeks back but I let it passed without realizing the uniqueness of this LCD from SHARP until I read about it again in the above source. Below is the news that I came across earlier.

Sharp develops ‘two-way viewing’ LCD

What this LCD can do is that it is capable of displaying two different images to people viewing the screen from the left and the right. This is the special uniqueness of this LCD from SHARP. Pretty cool isn’t it. The link below contains a picture of this LCD in action. On the left is the mirror while the LCD is on the right. Note the two different images formed.

Here is the link to the said picture Sharp’s double vision

By the way this LCD model has not been given a name yet ie ref numbers at the time of writing. Perhaps we just call it SHARP “DUAL” LCD . Can you think of any other names? If so just place it in the comment box below.
