Philips 42PF9830A LCD TV
Was reading up posts in www.lcdsassistant.com and attracted to this post on Philip 42PF9830A. What attracted me to this post is the mixed reviews for this model. And to satisfy my curiousity I went online to learn why and at the same time to know more about this model.
The 42PF9830A is Philip’s flagship 42-inch LCD TV. This model features high-definition LCD display, capable of displaying up to 1366 x 768p resolution. It has the ability to swivel via remote control and comes with ample connection options. However the panel lacks a dedicated PC input but it can still be connected to the PC via the HDMI inputs. There are built in TV tuners and media card slots are provided where you can enjoy music and image files without needing a PC.
As Philips’s most-expensive LCD TV , costing about $4000 and considered a high end unit, it however received mixed reviews form PC Magazine and CNET
Below is what PC Magazine summarized about Philip’s 42PF9830A :
The Philips 42PF9830A/37 ($3,999 list) is an LCD HDTV that offers useful multimedia capabilities and other features not found in the average HDTV. But image quality is the primary criterion for all HDTVs we review, and in that regard, the 42PF9830A/37 (also known as the FlatTV) was a surprising disappointment.
As a result PC Magazine gave it an Editors Rating of just 2.5 out of 5 ( Fair ).

However over at CNET, it gave 42PF9830A an Editors Rating of 7.0 out of 10 (Very Good). And this is what it said about it
The bottom line: The Philips 42PF9830A is one of the best-performing LCDs we’ve reviewed, although it still doesn’t rival the better plasmas at this size.

In my view, I tend to agree with PC Magazine, that is “image quality is the primary criterion” and if we are paying a price for a high end unit we expect it to perform what’s expected of a high end unit. If it’s not than chances are people will consider other brands that can. Anyway read the two reviews and reach your own conclusion.

I found your blog via Google while searching for best 42 lcd hdtv and your post regarding 42PF9830A LCD TV at Flat TVs looks very interesting to me. I could not believe the amount of quality material on this site. The site is extremely eyecatching and pulls the reader straight it, the articles are great quality and are very professionally written. I have seen too many of these sites where it looks like they pay an 8 year old to do the writing - Not this one. Your site is easily the best that I have seen in a long while.
